Project 116

Empowering the next generation to think like entrepreneurs, create with purpose, and design for good.

The Challenge

Many middle school students lack access to hands-on learning experiences that connect creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Traditional classroom settings rarely offer opportunities to build real-world skills in product design, marketing, and business - leaving many students unaware of their potential to create change.

Our Approach

Launched as a volunteer-led program through Citizen Schools, Project 116 was created to foster innovation, confidence, and agency in young minds. Students were guided through the full product lifecycle - from ideation and design to marketing and sales - while learning the value of sustainable practices and social entrepreneurship.

The Solution

Introduced entrepreneurship and product design to underserved middle school students, giving them the tools and mentorship to turn ideas into tangible products with purpose.

Impact
  • Students designed, marketed, and sold three locally made products.
  • Empowered students to bring their ideas full circle, gaining real-world experience, raising funds, and seeing their work make real impact.
  • Sparked community engagement and youth empowerment through creativity.
Explore three volunteer initiatives that showcase the power of mentorship, design, and entrepreneurial spirit.
